I approach photography in two distinct ways:
One is a micro-documentary technique- focusing attention on minute details of objects or places. This concentration on often overlooked
features acts like a photographic suggestion- giving enough information to recall a thing or location, but just enough to allow it to be brought to mind subjectively. Each viewer is left to fill in the rest of the image for themselves- permitting each to complete the bigger picture in their own minds- so they 'see' it exactly how they remember-
The other approach is
the exact opposite, it is pure fantasy. Exotic, surreal scenes with bizarre casts of
characters, costumes and sets- I consider these 'stills from virtual movies'. These images are created to transport us- visual passports; license to investigate different personalities, demeanor, existences. The freedom to immerse into titillating, unfamiliar realms, shrugging off
reality, memories and preconceived notions... guilt.
